Session on Advances in Traditional Medicine

Conventional medicine has a long history of playing a role in disease prevention and control within public health. Nowadays, an increasing array of plants used in traditional medicine are demonstrating potential in fighting various infectious diseases, especially viral infections, thus providing valuable additional sources of antiviral therapies. The use of traditional medicines is gaining popularity worldwide, leading to increased awareness and research endeavors. The World Health Organization stresses the significance of integrating herbal medicines into primary healthcare in order to achieve the objective of “health for all.” Given the growing public health challenges, the ancient medical system is being reassessed. Therefore, there is an urgent need to improve the drug development process for natural compounds, not just in the short term but also in the long term over the next few decades.
